Liposuction is a surgical procedure used to reduce body contours and shape the body by removing fat cells. Although it was originally developed for the thighs and torso and thighs, liposuction is also effective in other parts of the body. It gives you a beautifully sculpted body shape. Liposuction is normally advised if lifestyle changes have not acquired the desired results. It treats areas of fat that are resistant to diet and exercise.
It is important to note that liposuction is not an overall weight-loss method. The procedure does not remove dimples, cellulite or stretch marks Liposuction is for those who wish to enhance and change the contour of their body.
Before the procedure, patients may receive a general anaesthetic which can last between 1 and 4 hours. An epidural may be used for treatments on the lower body. Next, fat is removed through a hollow instrument, known as a cannula. This is inserted under the skin. A powerful and high-pressure vacuum is then applied to the cannula.
Some patients may require secondary surgery or a touch-up after six months, usually for the removal of additional fat.
After the procedure, you will need to wear a support garment for four to six weeks. You will experience pain and mild discomfort- pain medication will be prescribed for this.
You will need to come in for an appointment the first day after surgery and then after one week, one month and six months.
